Yoko Ono is one of the most renowned and significant artists living today. With her celebrated instructions, performances, installations, films, music, sculptures and photography she has remained at the vanguard of contemporary art since the 1960s. This exhibition focused on Yoko Ono's impact on art as a concept and her critical vision.
Supplementing the works on display at the museum (sculptures, installations, music), several works existed only as instructions accessible by mobile phone or the Internet.
The Museum also liked to make Yoko Ono's work visible outside the confines of the showroom, some of her instructions were therefore displayed on Clear Channel's advertisement hoardings throughout the city, and films were shown at Cinemateket. The museum approached Hans Ulrich Obrist to curate the work 'Water Event'. Together with Ono, Obrist invited 43 artists from all over the world to fashion a container or vessel. These vessels had to contain water and be dedicated to a specific person, country or cause. These were shown in their entirety in conjunction with the exhibition at the museum.
