Duane Hanson
Throughout his career Duane Hanson created life-like sculptures that portrayed the working class and overlooked members of American society. The sculptures engage in a dialogue with the Pop Art movement of the day, and transform everyday banalities and trivialities into iconographic material. The hyperrealistic quality of the sculptures is the direct result of Hanson’s artistic approach. He used polyester resin to shape the figures from live models in his studio. With meticulous precision and attention to detail he reproduced everything from body hair to veins and bruises.
